I would say to start caring about others, not to be rude, to start and trying to fix things with his family. to maybe start apologizing to people he hurt or stole/took things from and to thank Garvey for helping him out and sending him to the island to change/help him.
I think it would be his anger control, simply because he believes everyone either is afraid of him or defies him, and he attacks those that defy, insult or annoy him.
Cole's biggest challenge moving forward is his mind. The author says,"in a few months your body will heal, but time won't heal your mind as easily"(Mikaelsen 107). Cole needs to learn to trust people and make friends. Also, he needs to learn that not everyone hates him like he thinks they do.
Cole's biggest challenge other than his physical state may be Knowing he isn't as tough as he think he is.
Cole's biggest challenge in moving forward is not trusting people, when he cant trust on people he is not depending on people and not depending on people for certain things wont get him anywhere.
Cole's biggest challenge is trust. He can't trust anyone except that moment with the spirit bear in chapter 12. The narrator says," He felt the bear's breath and heartbeat. And he he felt one more thing. He felt trust. But why?" (Mikaelsen 95).
Cole"s biggest challenge through life is letting go of his past. the author describes how coal felt when he saw that baby birds that " he didn't owe anyone anything. nobody had ever cared for him, so why should he care about anyone else" ( MIKAELSEN 75).
I think that Cole's biggest challenge moving forward in life would be being attacked by the bear. He was mauled by the bear and would still have the memory of being attacked and almost being eaten alive. I also think Cole's name will also be a challenge for him, because people will always know what he had done to Peter and can't ever get away from that judgement.
I would say his hardest challenge would be to start over with everything like the people he hurt, trying to regain their trust. All of his criminal records, living with those all his life. Although he is learning to get better as a person he will always have memories that will never fade. An example of a memory Edwin says to Cole, "A person is never done being mad. Anger is a memory never forgotten. You only tame," (Mikaelsen 110). Going along with taming his anger he also needs to tame all of his past.
Cole's challenge of fixing his life would be more careful and not so mean and angry and try to blame someone/something else.
I think Cole's biggest challenge is going to be trusting people. In the beginning of the novel, Cole had a tough life with his family and that took the trust away from him. In order for Edwin and Garvey to help Cole, he will have to learn how to trust them.
what I think Cole biggest challenge is, is to start caring about others feelings. Cole does not realize the things he do reflects back on him, mom, and his dad. Cole needs to learn how to be a diplomatic person.
I think Cole's biggest challenge moving forward is knowing he got attacked by a bear and how know body was there to help him.
Cole's biggest challenge in life is having support. He doesn't support from his family or from anyone. When he is on the island he gets annoyed by baby birds in a tree but when the storm comes by and the tree falls down.
