Cole is controlling his story in the same way he controls everyone else. he uses his manipulative ways to get what he wants.

An example of Cole controling his life is by trying to not lie anymore. The author said, "Beginning today, he would tell the truth" (Mikaelsen 112).

He slowly begins to control his anger, and it slowly makes him into a better person. Even though he is learning to be better, he still needs a punishment. His punishment is needed because he wasn't able to live on the island for a full year.

When I said, "He slowly begins to control his anger..." (Williams), there is proof of this in the novel [Touching Spirit Bear]. When Cole is in the Circle meeting, the author says, "Cole fought the urge to hit or shove the elder" (Mikaelsen 128).

When Cole tried to kill the bear, he knew that the bear would attack. When Cole was talking to Garvey, he said, "I'm wishing I hadn't blown my chance on the island" ( Mikaelsen 119). This shows that Cole knew he was controlling his own story.

He looked around and saw how beautiful life was and remembered that somebody told him the circle of life and decided he wanted to live and enjoy his own life.

cOLE IS controling ThE sTory By His aNgEr. I thinks thats because his anger always adds something on. For example, Cole is being tempted to kill the bear and now there was a huge fight.

Cole is blaming all of his problems on everyone else, except himself. For example, when he beat up Peter, he said that it was Peter's fault.

He is controlling his own life by manipulating his parents, Garvey, and every one else to get out of trouble. The author says," All Cole did was pretend he was sorry for a few days till things blew over"(Mikaelsen8).

Cole is controlling the story of his life right now by wanting to be in control of everything and by thinking hes better than everyone and everything. In touching spirit bear, the keeper was trying to help Cole. That's when the author says, " Cole jerked his arm away" Then Cole says "I can walk by myself." This quote shows that Cole is very self conceited and controlling and wants to handle everything himself.

I think that he is controlling the story of his life because he wanted to live so he started eating whatever he could find to eat. What kept him going was looking at the helpless sparrows, laying dead, near their nest. The text says,"What other choice did he have if he wanted to live? Reluctantly he picked up the wad and returned it to his mouth" (Mikaelsen 85). This shows that he was willing to do whatever it takes to stay alive.

When he went to the island, right when the two people left Cole burnt down the cabin. That was his way of showing that he doesn't need anyone, doesn't need anyone's help or pity. That was his way of saying I can do everything by myself with no ones help. "Recklessly, he splashed the gas over the supplies.... He dumped the remaining fuel on the shelter walls... then flipped the lighted match inside the shelter... The gas ignited, the flames spread quickly into a steady blaze.." (Mikaelsen chapter 2 page 25)

Cole is on a island in Alaska with almost nothing to control. He was desperate to do anything to have things in control, so he took out his anger on a small caterpillar crawling next him. The author states," He reached out his finger and crushed it. That would teach it not to crawl so close"(Mikaelsen 71-72pg).
