Cole could prove he's changed by not doing the things he's been doing and controlling his anger. He could also stop smashing people's heads into the ground.
Cole could explain that when he was lyin on the ground after the attck and the storm he could only think about the baby birds. He thought about the birds, the birds helped him stay alive and see the true beauty of life.
Why would they believe that, Jessica? He's lied to them so many times, and they know it.
When he was in the boat Garvey was calling him Champ. When they were in minnisota Cole hated it when peple called him CHamp. He now doesnt care. He also now knows what Peter went through
Cole can prove to be changing be simply telling the truth, not raising his voice, and apologizing to the people that he has hurt.
Cole could actually mean what he says and apologize to Peter directly and realize what harm he has actually done to Peter and his family now that he knows how it feels to be brutally attacked.
I believe that there is no way that he can prove to the Circle Justice that he has changed. He was on the island by himself with nobody watching. The only way is too let him go back to living his life, and see if he gets into anymore trouble.
The only way Cole could prove himself to the circle is by telling the truth and explaining what happened and hope for the best.
He can share his experience when he got attacked and he saw the beauty of nature around him with the bright colors and the natural smells. The author expresses,"...but also the fresh odor of seaweed and moss and cedar and salt. Vivid colors glistened wet in the bright light. A strange thought occurred to Cole: the world was beautiful. Yes, the world was beautiful." That experience could change the view on how the people at the circle see Cole.
Cole is now accepting his anger and trying to put it in the past . Edwin says," a person is never done being mad. Anger is a memory never forgotten" ( Mikaelsen 110). He is putting anger in the past but not forget it. He is only telling the truth and should not have to prove himself.
Cole can explain his experiences with nature and his condition. After Cole is healed, he can help Peter with daily tasks, to shoe that he has changed.
Cole realizes that he can go to jail but he says the would of never happened if Peter knew how to fight. Cole blames everything on other people because he cant take the blame.
The circle can believe him because he is owning up to what he did. Cole says, " It's my fault" ( Mikaelsen 105). Before, Cole blamed everything on others. Nothing was Cole's fault. Now he understands what he did and is ready the face all of the problems. Cole states, " Whatever happens now, I'm done being mad" ( mikealsem 110). He knows what might happen to him but he is okay with it.
In my opinion, all Cole needs to do to prove he has changed, is to try to be a good person. The text says,"Beginning today, he would only tell the truth. His words would become his only proof"(Mikaelsen 112). By telling the truth, everyone should be able to realize his actions are different. Then, they may be able to forgive him.
Cole would have to go back to the island to show that he had truly changed. And with Edwin's help, he showed the Committee that he had changed a little when Edwin pushed him down. In the story, Edwin said,"I believe something significant happened to Cole on the island. Six months ago, he would have come up off the floor swinging after a push like that" (Mikaelsen 128).
He could prove of what the Spirit Bear did to Cole. That he was lying on the floor and could not move. Because he was on the floor and the animals ate at him and he could not do anything. He also thought that some of the animals would help him but they did not.
Cole can prove himself by explaining to the circle what had happened to him on the island, and he has proof with his injuries and scars. If Cole's anger overtakes him during the circle the people won't believe him and they know his anger can prove he is lying.
He could prove he is changing by actually apologizing to Peter and being involved and forgiving his father and proving that just like Peter he was beat. He was beat a lot worst than Peter.
