Cole is like a puzzle. You can put the pieces that go together together, but when they don't fit you have to take them away. Just like Cole doesn't fit in anywhere so they had to take him away.
Cole and the Bear were very similar. They both attacked a creature that was multiple times weaker and smaller then him.
Cole's life is like a rollercoaster. His life has many twists and turns . At one moment he is manipulating peoples minds and next he is admitting his mistakes in life. They don't choose to believe him because of the layers he is starting to show.
Cole can symbolize a bear. It thinks it is the king of the forest and manipulates other creatures. It can be calm one second, and the next it could be attacking another helpless creature. Bears don't usually stay in groups, and are left to fend for themselves. All these similarities represent Cole.
I agree with you. In the wild, when a bear happens to kill someone, it then adapts a taste for people because it knows they are an easy hunt. When Cole was beaten by his father, he learned that he could manipulate others through anger.
Cole's life is like a little kid who is still learning. Little kids don't always take the responsibility of their actions. Cole always blames everything on other people like little kids.
When little kids make a mess they will ethier blame it on someone else or not take responsibility for it. When Cole punches peter he says in the socratic circle "Cole figured if Peter Driscal had known how to fight back".
The baby sparrows can symbolize Cole. He is helpless and alone like the sparrows when the nest fell. They needed their mom to give them food and shelter. Cole was the same way, he needed his parents to give him money in order to get him out of jail. The sparrows stayed by their nest even when they fell. Cole stayed by his anger even when others pushed him down.
Cole's life is like a tree, each time he makes a bad decision, its as if a man chops the tree once. Each chop making the tree weaker and weaker, until it reaches the point to where it is about to fall. If you then support the tree and give it time to heal, it can grow back the wood it lost, but it will be weaker than it first was.
I feel like he can symbolize as the spirit bear because he wants to kill which a bear does. When Cole was on the ground the bear came back. The bear came closer, and he puts his hand in the bears hand,"With his fingertips, he felt warmth. He felt the bear's breath and heartbeat. And he felt one more thing. He felt trust"(Mikaelsen 95). If he can trust the bear then the bear can trust Cole. Both trust each other, both want power, and both want life.
Cole's Life could also represent a baby sea turtle going to the ocean once it hatches, The reasoning for this is because it is dangerous and deadly. This theory mostly applies to Cole after the bear attack. the birds trying to eat the turtle symbolizes being so close to death but he keeps fighting and pushing forward to live. the ocean in this theory symbolizes living and freedom. The egg the turtle breaks out of could symbolize Cole having a new beginning and a new way of seeing.
The spirit bear symbolizes Cole's personality. The bear is strong and tough, just like Cole. They both have the power to harm others. The bear is all alone and relies on no one, just like Cole. They also can survive in tough conditions.
The storm simbolizes Cole's attitude. They both are out of control and you think they wont stop. But when they stop they bring out very good things. The storm brought out the sun. Cole brought out the sun in his heart. He attempts becomes a good person and tries to fix the past,
Cole is Like dirt. Dirt is layered and mixed with different minerals. Cole has different layers and each part of his personallity makes up his life.
Cole is like glass. Glass breaks easily but it can be put back together but it will be a challenge. When Cole breaks he loses control and does something wrong that he will learn to regret. When Cole grows and realizes what he did, he tries to fix it ,but is going to be a challenge regaining trust and stability.
Fire symbolizes Cole's life because of a few reasons. Cole's anger is like a fire because when a fire is lit up it can hurt people, and when Cole is angry he can hurt people. When Cole is calm and doesn't do anything bad he is like a fire thats not lit up which it does not affect anyone at all. Jenga symbolizes Cole because when there is not a good support for the tower it will fall, and since Cole has no support from others on the island and can die.
Cole and the bear were very similar. Both Cole and the bear attacked someone, and they both want people to fear them. It is also everyone else's fault. To the bear it is Cole's fault he was attacked because Cole attacked the bear first. So Cole is at fault, but to Cole it was the bear's fault for not running away. In the book it says that Cole smashed Peter's head into the ground and the bear smashed Cole's head into the ground. When Cole was beating up Peter he tried to escape but Cole was on top of him. Same thing Cole tried to escape from the bear and the bear caught up to him and brought Cole back to the ground.
Cole is like Legos. They are all random shapes and sizes, but when put together correctly, they turn in to something way better. Cole has a hard time putting himself together.
